Splicing and Termination

With an ever growing demand for the roll-out optical fibre networks and ultimately the maintenance thereof, it is very critical that service providers pay a lot of attention to the quality of the installation and maintenance of such networks.

The splicing and terminating of fibre is critical for the successful operation of a telecommunications system and network.  TIS pride ourselves in providing an excellent quality of service when it comes to services like splicing & termination of optic fibre during the route installation phase as well as any ‘Service on Demand’ projects. Our technicians are highly skilled and have many years of experience in this field. They take much care when handling and preparing the fibre cable - the fibres are cleaned, cleaved, and fusion spliced before the splice is protected with a heat shrunk protector.  The closures or termination shelves containing the splices are also carefully prepared and neatly populated. Where needed, closures are sealed to prevent moisture access to the splices and the cable in the event of a flooded man-hole, for example.

After the end-to-end installation of the fibre route, optical testing of the complete system is essential for the quality assurance of the link.  Our test teams perform full fibre characterization tests on a daily basis and provide our customers with a thorough consolidated Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) report. Our testing includes bidirectional OTDR tests and OLTS (PMLS) testing, CD & PMD tests required to qualify a link for 10 Gb/s compliance.  The same tests will be done in the future to qualify the link for 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s when these bitrates become commonly accepted.
